A Decade of the American Riviera Figure Skating Club at Ice in Paradise

The American Riviera Figure Skating Club (ARFSC), originally conceived of as the Ice in Paradise Figure Skating Club (IIPFSC), is a non-profit organization that's affiliated with U.S. Figure Skating (USFS), a national governing body for the sport of figure skating, recognized by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committees (USOPC). Acting as the local representative of USFS, ARFSC (as IIPFSC did before them) is responsible for promoting competitive figure skating locally, which is in contrast to Ice in Paradise’s Ice Sports Industry (ISI) programs, which promote recreational ice skating.

 

The American Riviera Figure Skating Club is not only responsible for seeing that USFS policies are carried out at the local level, but also for ensuring that the local programs adhere to the SafeSport guidelines for the protection of athletes involved in figure skating. ARFSC shares this responsibility with Ice in Paradise, which also subscribes to those guidelines. ARFSC values promoting the principles of good sportsmanship and mutual respect by all participants.

 

The Ice in Paradise Figure Skating Club was founded in 2015 at the same time Ice in Paradise first opened. The nescient club applied to US Figure Skating for recognition as a provisional club, and received its approval as a full USFS club the following year. In 2024, the Ice in Paradise Figure Skating Club was rebranded through USFS as the American Riviera Figure Skating Club at the request of the Ice in Paradise Board of Directors; this was done to avoid confusion among rink patrons and donors and to help differentiate between the two separate entities, due to the similarity in their names. 

 

The American Riviera Figure Skating Club has several athletes who actively compete in USFS events held around the country. Prior to the COVID pandemic, some of our athletes qualified to compete in the National Figure Skating Championships. ARFSC also sponsors skating skills, singles, pairs, and ice dance test sessions, as well as recitals held at Ice in Paradise.

 

ARFSC encourages all skaters to join them at Ice in Paradise, their home skating facility. Whether a skater is new to the sport or a regular on the ice, they are welcome to join as a member or become a volunteer. ARFSC's mission is to "encourage in the instruction, practice, and advancement of the members in any or all of the disciplines of figure skating; to encourage and cultivate a spirit of fraternal feeling among ice skaters; and to carry out the general policies and objectives of the United States Figure Skating Association."

 

ARFSC memberships are from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. By becoming an ARFSC member, you also register as a USFS member and become eligible to participate in all USFS-sanctioned events. In addition, you'll be able to compete and participate in competitions, testing sessions, and any club activities hosted by ARFSC.
