Ice in Paradise, Home Ice to the Royals

The Santa Barbara Royals (SB Royals or Royals) is the high school ice hockey team, composed of players from local high schools within Santa Barbara County, with skaters ranging from grades 9-12. The Royals are a part of the LA Kings High School Hockey League (LAKHSHL), which is comprised of other teams from southern California.

Following the completion of Ice in Paradise in 2015, the Royals started their inaugural season in the newly launched LA Kings High School Hockey League with a victory against San Gabriel Valley, 12-0. Shortly into their first season, the Royals played their first "home ice" opener game on the Snider Rink against the Kern County Knights on Saturday, October 17, 2015, with a 3-2 victory. That first season, the Royals were 15-1 and became the first ever LAKHSHL Champions!

Prior to 2015, hockey players that wanted to take part in youth hockey leagues would often make two to three trips to Oxnard or the Channel Islands Ice Center a week, for their practices and games, so when Ice in Paradise was built, hockey players now had a place to call their "home ice." Skaters often start off in Ice in Paradise's Learn to Skate programs and Youth Hockey programs, later transitioning into one of the Ice Hawk's travel teams, and eventually into the Royals High School team.

Since that first LAKHSHL Championship victory, the Royals has continued to achieve many more accomplishments over the years, including winning the LAKHSHL Championships the following year in the 2016-17 season and again in the 2021-22 season. This 2025-26 season, after a loss of 2-3 in their first game of the season against the Wildcats, the Royals went on to win the next 15 games in a row, leading them to the semi-finals against the Ventura County Poseidon, which they won with a score of 4-0. The Royals ended their season by becoming Jim Fox Cup Varsity Champions, winning 5-2 against the Cougars on February 22, 2026.

Ice in Paradise is proud to be the home rink to the Santa Barbara Royals and we're glad to continue supporting them, by continuing to be their "home ice."
