On April 12th, Ice in Paradise was filled with more than just skaters—it was filled with purpose, resilience, and heart. Our rink proudly hosted the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer Frozen 5K, bringing together an incredible community united in the fight against cancer.

Part of the nationwide Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer initiative benefiting the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation, this event invited participants of all ages and skill levels to take part in a meaningful challenge: skating 35 laps around the rink—the equivalent of a 5K—while fundraising to support innovative cancer research.

Throughout the day, the ice became a powerful symbol of hope. Skaters laced up not only for the challenge, but for something deeply personal. Many skated in honor of loved ones currently battling cancer, in memory of those lost, or in celebration of survivorship. To track their progress, participants added a sticky note with their initials to the glass for every five laps completed—meaning that once they collected seven notes, they had officially completed the 5K. Watching the glass gradually fill with names became a meaningful visual reminder of the collective effort and determination on the ice.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the event was the incredible range of talent on the ice. Skaters who had only been on the ice a handful of times pushed themselves to reach the full 35 laps, showing determination and courage with every stride. At the same time, seasoned skaters brought speed and endurance to the challenge—the fastest participant completed all 35 laps in an impressive 12 minutes. Many advanced skaters even turned the Frozen 5K into an extended personal test, continuing well beyond the finish, with quite a few surpassing 100 laps in just an hour and 15 minutes.

In the weeks leading up to the event, participants and teams worked tirelessly to raise funds, reaching out to friends, family, and the broader community. Thanks to their dedication and generosity, we closed out the campaign having raised $4,585, coming incredibly close to our $5,000 goal. Every dollar raised contributes to advancing life-changing cancer research and bringing hope to those who need it most.
The event itself was a true reflection of what makes Ice in Paradise special—a place where community comes first. From first-time skaters stepping onto the ice for a cause, to experienced participants pushing their limits, the energy in the rink was inspiring from start to finish.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, and supported this event. Because of you, the 2026 Frozen 5K was not only a success—it was a reminder of the impact we can make when we come together.
At Ice in Paradise, we are proud to be part of a movement that is helping to turn cancer upside down—one lap at a time.
