Young Norqs Celebrate End of Season with Pizza Party and Say Goodbye to the Chandran Family

The Young Norqs wrapped up their spring season with an afternoon of celebration, laughter, and heartfelt goodbyes as players, coaches, and families gathered on the Rinkside Cafe's patio on Saturday, June 27. The end-of-season party was a chance to recognize the team's accomplishments, enjoy time together off the ice, and honor two teammates whose next adventure will take them halfway around the world.

Coaches Neal and Steve welcomed everyone and thanked the players and their families for making the season such a success. They also took a moment to remind the team about the legacy of Jack Norqual, whose passion for hockey and commitment to the community continue to inspire the program that proudly bears his name. The Young Norqs are more than just a hockey team—they are part of a tradition built on sportsmanship, teamwork, and a love of the game.

One of the afternoon's highlights came when Coach Steve, a former NHL player, shared stories from his professional career and signed photographs for the young athletes. The autograph session was a memorable experience for the players, many of whom eagerly lined up for the chance to meet their coach in a whole new light and take home a keepsake from the day.

After the excitement, everyone gathered around tables filled with pizza, fresh salad, lemonade, and sodas. The celebration continued with an impressive dessert spread featuring a "Congratulations Young Norqs" cake, ice cream, cupcakes, and freshly made churros served with warm caramel and chocolate sauces. Unsurprisingly, the desserts proved every bit as popular as the autograph session.

While the afternoon was filled with celebration, it also carried a bittersweet note as the team said goodbye to Arielle and Aidan Chandran, who, along with their parents Sharon and Emmett, will be relocating to Singapore this month. Over the years, the Chandran family has become a valued part of the Ice in Paradise community through their enthusiastic participation, unwavering support, and extraordinary generosity.

Although they will be greatly missed, their legacy will remain at the rink for years to come. The penalty box in the Norqual Rink proudly bears Arielle's and Aidan's names, and the family's names are permanently commemorated in the donor park through engraved bricks. These lasting tributes reflect the meaningful impact the Chandran family has had on Ice in Paradise and everyone who has had the privilege of knowing them.

As one season comes to a close and new adventures begin, the Young Norqs leave with more than improved hockey skills. They carry with them friendships, memories, and the spirit of a community that supports one another both on and off the ice. Everyone at Ice in Paradise wishes Arielle, Aidan, Sharon, and Emmett all the best in Singapore and looks forward to welcoming the next generation of Young Norqs for another exciting season.
