Last Saturday, March 28, was packed with energy, excitement, and a whole lot of firsts at Ice in Paradise, as we hosted a series of successful events that brought new faces onto the ice and created memorable experiences for everyone involved.
Curling Event: A Sold-Out Success
Our Learn to Curl sessions were a major highlight, with all three 30-minute sessions completely sold out. Each session welcomed between 15–20 participants, many of whom were stepping onto the curling sheet for the very first time. Interest in curling has seen a noticeable surge in recent weeks, sparked in part by the excitement of the Winter Olympics in February. With so many in our community tuning in and becoming curious about the sport, Ice in Paradise quickly became a local hub for those asking, “How can I try curling?”
Adding to the excitement, a friendly curling tournament took place concurrently with the Learn to Curl sessions, creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere across the ice. Four teams, each made up of about four players, faced off in a series of games using an 8-stone format. Teams were a great mix of familiar rink regulars and brand-new participants who had never visited Ice in Paradise before, making for a fun and inclusive experience.
To keep things balanced and engaging, players rotated in and out as needed. While there was some friendly competition, the focus remained firmly on fun, learning, and community connection. Creative team names like the Old Hawks and the Paradise Team added to the festive spirit, with plenty of laughter and encouragement shared throughout the games.
Try Goalie Free Hockey Clinic
We also hosted a Try Goalie free hockey clinic, which drew around 10 enthusiastic participants ranging in age from 5 to 17. For many, this was their very first experience in goal—and it showed in the best way possible, with wide smiles and growing confidence throughout the session.
The clinic was led by Coach Will Hahn, with support from several dedicated coaches and volunteers who stepped in as shooters. This setup gave participants a chance to face real shots in a supportive and encouraging environment, helping them build skills while having a great time.
Looking Ahead
Events like these are a great reminder of how powerful it is to introduce new players to the ice in a welcoming and low-pressure setting. Whether it was sliding stones in curling or stepping into the crease as a goalie, last weekend was all about trying something new and having fun doing it.
We’re thrilled with the turnout and can’t wait to host more events like these in the future. Stay tuned for what’s next!
